“I want my mama” she wailed through her tears. But her mama wasn’t nearby. I offered her a hug and she melted into my arms. I carried her to a grassy spot in the sun and we sat down together and cuddled until she was ready to rejoin her friends. After a few minutes, she ran back to them, ready to play again. When I become a mama, I expected that I would have countless moments like these with my child. But raising a child means also getting to know their friends, and becoming a part of those children’s lives as well. And as the years pass, I’ve come to realize that I am not just raising one child, I’m helping to raise this whole village. To all of you helping us to raise this next generation, whether you have your own kiddos or not, thank you, we love you, and we couldn’t do this without you.
